The GSD Group believes that education is vital for national development. Out of their concern for social responsibility, the shareholders of GSD Holding established the GSD Educational Foundation in 1996 under the leadership of Mr. M. Turgut Yılmaz, the founder and Chairman of the Group. Since then, the Foundation has been active in the national campaign to build and support public schools.

The GSD Educational Foundation is a non-profit organization managed by a five-member board, appointed by the fifteen permanent and five temporary trustees. Since its establishment, the Foundation has financed and completed the construction of two new primary schools (grades 1-8) and has turned them over to the Ministry of Education.

The first school opened in Bahçelievler, a neighborhood of Istanbul, in 1998 and accommodates a student body of 865. Constructed on a 4,000 m2 plot of land, the school buildings' total built-up area covers 3,000 m2. The second school was constructed in the 1999 earthquake-devastated region of Çiftlikköy, Yalova, and was inaugurated in 2001. This institution is similar to the one in Bahçelievler in terms of its facilities and the rich variety of services it offers to its students. The GSD Educational Foundation continues to support both schools with further grants in order to achieve and maintain excellence in schooling.

In February 2009, the Foundation added 14 classrooms to the Hasan Yılmaz primary school located in Çayeli, Rize and upgraded the school's facilities.
